Embrace Pet Insurance Scam? My Honest Experience After Two Years

If you’re thinking about getting pet insurance, especially from Embrace Pet Insurance, I strongly recommend you read this before making any decisions.

I’m writing this blog because I want to warn other pet owners about what happened to me and hopefully save you from the frustration and heartbreak I experienced.

When I was searching for pet insurance on Google, GEICO came up in the results. Since GEICO is a well-known and trusted company, I felt confident moving forward. I followed the steps to get an insurance quote, and that’s when I was redirected to a different site Embrace Pet Insurance.

At that point, I didn’t know whether GEICO owns or partners with Embrace, but seeing the GEICO name gave me a sense of security. Unfortunately, that trust turned out to be a mistake.

I Paid for More than One Year Without Using It

The day I signed up for Embrace Pet Insurance for my small dog, when she was about 11 months old. Someone had given her to me, and I wanted to make sure she had coverage just in case. I explained the situation clearly to the Embrace agent, and they told me it was no problem.

The representative said something like, “After 15 days of getting the insurance, you’re good to go — just send us the vet bill and we’ll deposit the money into your bank account.”

That sounded perfect. So, I kept paying my monthly premiums — for almost two years — without submitting any claims at all, even though I had taken my little pet to the vet a few times.

The First Time I Needed Them… They Disappeared

Seven weeks ago, my pet needed a visit to the vet again. This time the bill was higher, so I decided to finally file a claim — the first one I’d ever submitted. I gathered all the paperwork, submitted the claim properly, and waited.

After almost a month of silence, I finally received a response from Embrace.

They told me they couldn’t approve the claim because I hadn’t submitted a medical exam from before I got the insurance.

What?! No one ever told me I needed to provide a pre-insurance vet exam not in the sign-up process, not in the emails, not even during the phone conversation where I explained Peanut’s situation in full.

This requirement was not disclosed clearly at the time of sign-up, and certainly not in the friendly, “no worries” tone they used to earn my trust.

Why I’m Calling Embrace Pet Insurance a Scam

This feels like a scam — and here’s why:

It’s hard not to feel like their whole business model is based on getting people to pay without ever really helping them.

Final Thoughts

I trusted Embrace Pet Insurance to help protect my dog, but when it mattered, they disappeared behind excuses. I paid for peace of mind and got nothing but stress.
